HUSSARS LITERARY PRIZE 2024

The Hussards Literary Prize (www.prixdeshussards.com) was created in 2013 by Christian Millau and the lawyers Marina Cousté and François Jonquères. Christian Millau, who was its first president, had been part of the literary adventure of the 1950s alongside Roger Nimier, Antoine Blondin, Jacques Laurent, and Michel Déon, an epic tale told in Au Galop des Hussards (Grand prize for the biography of the French Academy).

The 11th Hussars prize will be awarded on April 23 at the Lutetia Hotel. The final selection is as follows:


Les Petits Farceurs by Louis-Henri de la Rochefoucauld, published by Robert Laffont in August 2023.


Jules et Joe, by Alexis Salatko, published by Denoël in August 2023.

Juste le Temps de Vivre, by Yann Liotard, published by Arléa in March 2024.

Shako's shot rewards:


José Giovanni, the story of a Redemption by Gilles Antonowicz, published by Glyphe in February 2024.


A special prize will reward Patrick Mahé on the occasion of the release of his book La Légende de Paris-Match at Plon.


Pascal Thomas is the guest of honor for this evening dedicated to the Hussars!


The Hussars jury is composed of:


-           Éric Naulleau (president, writer, journalist)

-           Marina Cousté (general secretary of the Prize, lawyer)

-           François Jonquères (general secretary of the Prize, lawyer)

-           Philippe Bilger (honorary magistrate, writer, polemicist)

-           Jean des Cars (journalist, historian)

-           François Cérésa (writer, editor of the monthly “Service Littéraire”)

-           Bruno de Cessole (journalist, writer)

-           Arnaud Guillon (journalist, writer)

-           Stéphanie des Horts (journalist, writer)

-           Philibert Humm (journalist, writer)

-          Jérôme Leroy (journalist, writer)

-           Yves Thréard (deputy director of Le Figaro)

-          Jean Tulard (historian, member of the Institute)


The prize is endowed by VIVENDI (10,000 euros), as well as by the Grand Véfour, the Put house, and the monthly Service littéraire, the winner also receiving a statuette specially created by the sculptor Igor Ustinov.


The prize has already been awarded to Franz Bartelt (2014), Sylvain Tesson (2015), Yann Queffelec (2016), Barbara Israel (2017), Philippe Lacoche (2018), Stéphane Hoffmann (2019), François Garde (2020), Christian Authier (2021), Patrice Jean (2022) and Olivier Maulin (2023).
